The Murder of Tim Nance

For this case I watched an episode of Twisted Sisters. It’s season 2 episode 9, titled ‘Blood in the Snow.’ There is also an episode of Snapped about this case, and I recently listened to the Snapped podcast episode of it.

A man is reported missing in a small Wisconsin town.

Background

Tim Nance

Tim Nance

Tim Nance met his future wife at a house party in 1992. The relationship became serious very fast. They moved in together, and had a daughter named Tameka.

Tim struggled in his teen years, and had been arrested on drug charges. He was described as a good father, and could be sensitive and romantic. However, he was a ladies man, and everyone knew it, including Eve. This among other things led to many fights between the couple, and eventually led to these events.

An Early Birth

In August 1994, Eve was 7 months pregnant at this time. She went out to walk the dog, and was approached by a man who came up behind her. Eve was able to run home, and Tim being a protector grabbed his gun. He walked outside and shot the man in the leg.

Eve started to bleed, and was rushed to the hospital. She went into labor, and Tameka was born, and put on an incubator.

While they were at the hospital, Tim was arrested. He was sentenced to three years in prison. However, his sentence was reduced to eight months, and he was sent to a boot camp. He was released in June 1995.

The Sister

Eve was very close to her sister Tina, who was only a few years younger. Their mom had married their step-dad in 1987, and it was a very abusive relationship. Tina still lived at home until 1995, when Eve invited her to move in with her, Tim and Tameka.

Tina got pregnant at age 16, and gave birth to her daughter Justice in 1997. Eve was supportive and always by her side. Tameka said that she and Justice were like sisters, and Tina was her second mom.

In 1997, Tim was arrested again, this time on a drug charge. He was sentenced to three years, and released in 2000. Tim and Eve eventually got married.

The Ladies Man

In 2002, the family moved to Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, a town about two years from my hometown.

By this point, Tim was still a party boy with a wandering eye. He met a woman named Monica at a party his friend had. They had an affair, and he didn’t hide it from Eve. She let it slide for awhile until she started standing up for herself more.

The fights became more heated and abusive, and Tim fractured Eve’s leg with a hollow pole after a party. By 2008, the couple broke up. Tina said she was happy that her sister wasn’t being treated badly anymore, but Tim eventually wormed his way back into Eve’s heart.

In August 2013, Tim began another relationship with a woman from work named Karen. Eve found them in her bed one day when she came home early from work, and Eve punched Tim in the eye. A police report was filed, and in the report, Tim explained that he loved Eve, but was going to continue to have affairs.

The Disappearance Timeline

So, there are many different stories about what happened to Tim. Eventually, the truth comes out, but the police believe that they never got the full story.

On Saturday, October 26, 2013, Eve and Tim went to a Halloween party at a bar. Karen showed up, and she and Eve got into a fight. It was said that Eve told Karen to stay away from Tim.

On Thursday, October 31, 2013, Tim and Eve were going to spend the night watching a movie. Tim eventually left the house, and told Eve he was going to the store. He actually had received a text from Karen that she was at urgent care and needed help. Eve found this out after Tim came home and fell asleep. She looked through his phone, and texted Karen saying that she was going to have sex with her husband, and that she needed to find a new man.

On November 5, 2013, a missing persons report was filed for Tim. He never showed up for work and his friends couldn’t get a hold of him. He was last seen on November 1, when he went to work at 5am.

Tim confronted Eve that day about the text she had sent to Karen. Tim and Karen made plans to go to a fish fry dinner that night, which is a huge thing on Friday nights in Wisconsin. Tim went home around 3pm, and said he’d call Karen after he showered. She never received that phone call.

Eve spent time with Tina that night. They went to dinner, went to Family Dollar and then Tina left to go to work at 10pm.

Eve called the police on November 5, and by November 8, the police began their investigation.

The Investigation

The police wanted to establish when Tim actually went missing. A friend of Tim’s came forward, and said he last talked to Tim on November 1 at 4:17pm. Tim told him he was going to shower, and then go to dinner with friends.

On November 12, the police went to Eve’s, and she allowed them to search the house. The police immediately smelled cleaning products and the plastic from a new shower curtain in the bathroom. The police believed something horrible had happened in that bathroom.

The police also searched the outside of the house, and found Tim’s white Cadillac, which was very important to him. Inside the car, Tim’s wallet and credit cards were found.

The police went back into the bathroom, and a crime scene investigator used Luminal to test for blood. The drain lit up, and a indentation in the tile was found.

On November 20, Eve was asked to come down to the police station for questioning, and another search warrant was obtained to do a hard search of the house.

Eve’s Story

Steve Kaufman with the Fond du Lac police questioned Eve at the station. During the interrogation, he was told by another detective that a bullet had been found in the drain. He is seen coming back into the room, and confronts Eve.

Eve said she came home on November 1, around 9:30pm, and found Tim asleep. When he woke up, they started to argue, and Eve said she went into the bathroom to get away from him. Eve said that Tim spit on her, and pulled a gun on her. Eve said she shot Tim, but it was an accident because they both had the gun.

The police asked Eve what happened next. Eve said she had plastic for her windows that she wrapped his body in. Det. Kaufman asked how she moved him by herself, and she said she was able to carry him out of the house and to the car. He asked where she took him, and she said she didn’t know.

The police decided to take Eve to see if they could find where she took Tim. He was eventually found in Menomonee Falls, about 46 miles away from Fond du Lac. Tim was found frozen in the snow, naked and in a fetal position.

His autopsy later proved that Eve was lying. He had been shot twice in the head, once near his left ear and the other entered his skull, which was the fatal shot. The police also believed Tim was killed at 4pm on November 1, not 9:30pm. They also believed Tina was involved.

The Truth Comes Out?

Eve was interrogated again on December 1. They now had evidence that Tina was probably involved. They had surveillance footage of the sisters buying two new shower curtains on November 1. Eve also confessed that she called her sister five times, but it had been around 4:30pm, not at 9:30pm.

The police believed that Eve killed Tim around 4:17pm, right after he had talked to his friend. Tim was in the shower when he was killed. They also believe Tina helped Eve move Tim’s body, but they didn’t have any actual proof.

Eve and Tina were both arrested. Eve was found guilty of first degree homicide. She was sentenced to 25 years in prison.

Tina was convicted for helping hide the body and obstructing an officer. She was sentenced to 2 years in county jail, and was released on October 20, 2017.

Tina was interviewed in this episode, and maintains she didn’t help her sister. She said she was convicted because of who her sister is, but they still have a close relationship.

FINAL THOUGHTS

My heart broke for Tameka. She lost both of her parents, and her aunt who was the last person she had. I also believe that Tina knew more about what happened. This was a toxic relationship, but a man lost his life and a daughter lost her dad. Eve deserves to be in prison, and I doubt she’ll ever tell the whole truth about what happened in that bathroom.
