The 2020 New Year’s Day Murders
HAPPY 2021!!! I hope this year is better than last year, but I think anything will be better than 2020.
This a shorter case, but it’s a tragic one that just so happened to have occurred on New Year’s Eve. I listened to Nancy Grace’s podcast, so that and Crime Online were my biggest sources. Warning, this case involves crimes against children.
Background
This is an underreported case, so I don’t have a lot of background information on this woman who randomly killed three people.
Brittany McKinney was a 28 year old woman and before this crime, she had never been in trouble with law enforcement. She had one daughter, a ten year old, who sadly was one of her victims.
The Murders
Before Brittany decided to kill three people, she had been driving one of her victim’s vehicles. The man’s name was Jerry Griffin, and he was 61 years old. Jerry had apparently been living with Brittany and her daughter in Greensboro, NC. Her other victims were MKenzie McKinney, who was ten and Brittany’s two year old niece, Serenity Rose.

After the murders, instead of calling the police, Brittany called her sister. The police discovered the murders and the victims after Brittany’s sister, Delilah called in for a welfare check. She eventually said that Brittany said she had killed her daughter and niece.
Arrest of Brittany McKinney
Brittany McKinney was driving Jerry Griffin’s 2011 GMC truck and crashed it, and walked away to a gas station/connivence store. She was arrested at the gas station.
This crime occurred on January 2, 2020 and not all of the details have been put out to the public, which would explain why it is underreported.

If Brittany McKinney is convicted, she would be facing life in prison.
The family members of the two little girls are paying for their funeral. UGH MY HEART IS BREAKING FOR THIS FAMILY.
Brittany’s sister believes she was overwhelmed and still doesn’t fully understand why she murdered these three innocent victims.
FINAL THOUGHTS
This truly breaks my heart. These victims were innocent, especially a ten year old and two year old. Maybe Brittany McKinney had some mental health issues that no one caught onto or maybe she is pure evil. I hope that there are more developments in this case, and that she spends the rest of her life thinking about what she did.
