The Murder of Kristy Bamu
Warning, this case involves discussion of child abuse and the murder of a child. This case is going to be a little shorter today, but I wanted to do a case that happened right around Christmas time. I had never heard about this case before until I researched Christmas time murders. I also wanted to do a case other than Jon Benet Ramsey and the Covina Christmas Murders, since that’s what a lot of other true crime podcasts or blogs might do.
Background
Kristy Bamu was a 15 year old boy who was from London. He went to Paris to visit his older sister, Magalie and her boyfriend, Eric Bikubi during Christmas of 2010.
Kristy traveled with his four other siblings, and they were in the shock of their lives that day when Kristy’s life was taken.
The Attack
The attack started when Eric who was 28, accused the children of bringing “witchcraft,” into their home. This was on December 20th, and Kristy had wet his pants when he couldn’t get into the bathroom.
I’m sure Kristy looked up to his big sister and her boyfriend, and he was embarrassed when he wet his pants. He was trying to hide it from everyone, but the torture began when they saw the accident.
Kristy and his siblings were all beaten, attacked with a knife and one of the young girls was forced to eat a lightbulb. Eric then asked them to prove to him that they were witches, and he told them to jump out of a window to watch them fly.
All of the kids said they were witches to get Eric to stop, he did but then he forced all of the children to attack Kristy.
Kristy’s Brutal Death
Kristy received some of the most horrible torture that I’ve ever read about. He was beaten with a hammer, a large metal bar was used to hold his mouth open, and shoved down his throat. His head was bashed into the floor tiles, and his teeth were also knocked out. Kristy was hit repeatedly with a claw hammer and his limbs were completely smashed. The fact that someone or a group of people could do this to someone is disgusting and sad.
Kristy was still alive after all this, and he and his siblings were put into the bathtub and sprayed by Eric. Kristy survived his brutal attack, but his cause of death was drowning and when the autopsy was done, he had over 120 injuries to his body. His sister, Kelly said:
He passed away on Christmas morning.
Eric had called Kristy’s dad, Pierre, and told him that if he didn’t get his kids out of their house, they would be murdered. Pierre called 911, and the police came to the house or flat, and found a horrific scene.
Investigation
When the police arrived, they found blood all over the flat. They found it on the ceiling, walls and on different tools used to murder Kristy, and attack his siblings.
Eric and Kristy’s sister, Magalie were both arrested that day. Magalie said that Eric made her join in on the attack, and Eric said that he was defending himself because Kristy was a witch.
Eric was from the Congo, and he had believed in magic and witchcraft since he was younger. No matter how many times the kids told him they weren’t witches, he didn’t believe them.
Conviction and Sentencing
Kristy’s other siblings said that Magalie was just as involved as Eric was, and this sealed her fate.
Magalie was sentenced to 25 years in prison and Eric was sentenced to 30 years in prison.
FINAL THOUGHTS
I can’t even imagine what these kids were feeling that day. They wanted to visit their older sister over Christmas, and never had any problems with her or her boyfriend before and then this nightmare happened.
I don’t think these kids or their father will ever be the same, especially because they saw their brother actually die. They had to suffer two losses that day, Kristy dying and their sister being arrested because she is a killer. I hope that they are in therapy or something, and feel safe knowing that these monsters are rotting in prison.
